Rules and Randomness Excercise

 

this poster includes random phone numbers interpreted into colorful patterns. 

i represented each phone number with the old-school 0-9 keypad. the transparency of a square is determined by how many times its number appears in the phone number (0, 30%, 1 50%, 2, 75%, 3 90%, 4+, outline). while the rotations are changed, the position of the 0 on the keypad will always tell you how to interpret the numbers. 

 

The pattern was also inspired by midi launchpads, which also use a grid format.
